Fortune has released the first-ever Fortune 500 list for the Southeast Asia region..
This inaugural edition of the prestigious list highlights the region's economic prowess with entries from seven nations, prominently led by Indonesia with 110 companies.
The top 10 companies collectively reported a substantial revenue of US$650 billion, underscoring the region's economic diversity across sectors like energy, consumer goods, finance, and commodities. Despite challenges, including revenue and profit contractions linked to weak energy markets, there were standout growth stories in sectors such as mining, travel, and financial services.
Fortune noted that South-east Asia's emergence as a global economic force is underscored by shifting supply chains and increased investments, positioning the region as a crucial player in the global economy. The list's inclusion criteria, with a minimum revenue threshold of US$460.8 million, emphasizes the scale and impact of the region's largest corporations.
