Singapore and Johor are set to enhance their already strong business ties, driven by MNCs' supply chain diversification and the upcoming Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ).
This potential was highlighted at the Johor-Singapore Access conference on July 8, attended by 160 participants. Key developments include the Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link, expected to reduce travel time by 2026, and the increasing U.S.-China strategic rivalry prompting a shift in supply chains.
Renewable energy and data centres, with Johor's advantageous resources, are seen as major growth areas. Enhanced connectivity through waterways and streamlined immigration processes are also planned.
At the conference, Maybank executives emphasized the strategic economic integration of both regions, anticipating significant investments and cross-border business facilitation.
The JS-SEZ is slated for a full unveiling in September, with a focus on fostering economic growth and collaboration between Malaysia and Singapore.
